The Titanic Staircase Deck

When customers tell us key points they want on their deck and leave the creativity up to us, that is 1. the best feeling and 2. always how we end up with awesome features on a finished projects. Don’t get us wrong, we absolutely enjoy the extremely organized and prepared customer who knows exactly how to verbalize their vision, but man it’s fun to get the creative juices flowing and see how the project changes along the way. Laura beth was the ultimate customer! She was excited, enthusiastic through the entire project, and best of all she trusted our judgement and let us create her perfect outdoor space for her. She knew she wanted “grand stairs” and more stairs on the opposite side of her pool, a pergola, and pipe railing. Well she now has named her beautiful grand staircase the “Titanic Staircase”-which if you have a set of stairs that have their own name, you know they must be the talk of the party! A happy customer and an awesome first deck of the season…we’ll take it!

Our largest building to-date and our first Copper shop!

One of our favorite parts about building shops is seeing all the different color combinations our customers choose for their projects. We of course have our favorite color combos, but it’s always neat to see everyone’s visions come to life. This customer was getting ready to start his family’s new home build, and let me tell you, it turned out STUNNING! He needed a large shop to accomodate his trucks and equipment and needed a lean-to the length of the shop to store his camper. The customer wanted full insullation, a small porch covering the walk-in door, a ceiling with above access for storage, color matched gutters (can you believe they make copper gutters?!), and to hold off on concrete and garage doors for now. We were so excited with how the shop turned out, and the customer was over the moon happy! We were a little anxious to see how the copper and stone color combo would turn out….and we are fans! A job well done.

More space for these shop owners!

One of the perks of a shop is you can always add on and make it bigger! These customers were father and son and were wanting to add to an existing shop and share the space together. For this job we installed a walk through door, garage door, poured concrete, installed electrical, and added a block wall behind the building while setting the pad and doing the dirt work. One thing we’ve learned since being in business is no simple project is ever that simple-there are so many outside factors that can affect productivity and throw a wrench in your plan! Learning to live with the realities of construction/building can be frustrating but it’s part of the work! Sometimes you’ll have rain for a week straight and have to wait even after it’s sunny and 75 for it to dry before you can continue on the job, and if it’s too cold you-can’t pour conrete! We are at mother nature’s mercy, and she can be stubborn!

A Small Business Supporting a Small Business

There’s just simply a good feeling when your local community supports your small business, and there’s an even better feeling when a local small business supports another small business. This shop add-on was the epitome of a feel-good job. When you are customers to your customers, it doesn’t get much better than that! Eley Storage wanted to add on to their existing building and create an office space, waiting room, and garage area. So, that’s what they got! We also put in a block wall behind the add-on to help with the construction.

Ash Grove 3 sided pull in barn

We all know that there are plenty of ways to extend the life of our personal property, but sometimes don’t always know the best way to do that while also not burning a hole in our pocket book. This customer wanted a place to provide cover for his vehicles and farm equipment but didn’t find it necessary to spend the money on a completed shop. To answer his needs, we built him a 3 sided barn with side walls tall allowing enough clearance to fit his tractors. Doing this will keep his investments out of the weather and at a good price!

There are many people who would consider a less expensive option being a portable car port. While these are lighter on your budget, and make more sense for our folks that are in city limits, we encourage those with the space to consider a more permanent option that offers more stability, increases your property value, and lower maintenance.

Now THAT’S a privacy fence!

Okay, here’s the deal. Every business owner, builder, craftor…you get where I’m going with this…has that ONE project that everyone obsesses over. This was that project! Although this customer owns a few acres and has a fairly private piece of property, it sits right next to a busy highway which can be quite loud. So, here are the things he wanted to get out of hisfence:

-Privacy -Dampening of road sounds -A drivethrough gate -Curb Appeal

To acheive all of these things, we decided to raise the height of the fence to create a taller barrier between his house and the road in hopes to lessen road noise, doing this also increased privacy. To create an easy access point to allow entry into the back of the property, we wanted to cut out an area for the gate and add a block wall (soon to be finished on the side) to lessen the slope degree and create level ground for the drivethrough gate.

For the last and most obvious aspect of this fence, the apprearance was important-as we wanted to be sure it complemented the customer’s beatiful house. Every piece of metal on this fence was hand welded and fabricated to create what we envisioned. All of the boards were treated with stain and cut to size. In addition to the statement piece, being the fence, the customer wanted to add some landscaping around his house to help complete the look. The landscaping was a perfect transition from the beautiful fence to his stunning home and front patio. The only thing missing in these pictures of his landscaping is the Colorado Cobble Stone that he added to the landscaping beds, and man does that make the difference! Stone/Rock is a great alternative to mulch or dirt for a customer that wants their landscaping beds to be as low maintenance as possible, it was the perfect option for our customer and left them happy.

So, don’t be afraid to step out of the box and try something different. Just take these pictures as proof it will turn out to be stunning. Now, if Spring would come just a tad quicker so we can see how beautiful everything looks with green grass!

A pole barn shop with a twist!

I’d say we have waited long enough to share the end product of a previous blog post showing off the precision of our posts being set! Partially a little over due because of being so busy. BUT, that just means we have lots to share! This pole barn provided some interesting obstacles. The area of land that this shop sits on was about the only area large enough to house a shop without having to take out trees and it’s location is right beside a VERY large slope downhill into the lower part of the customer’s property-making space extremelt limited when bringing in materials. However, the main obstacle we faced was find out the length of the metal sent to us by our supplier was too short! Let me tell you, that’s not a problem anyone wants to run into. So, we had to come up with a plan and it ended up looking amazing! After a little brainstorming and determining how short we were on length, Gerry suggested staining Cedar boards and running them all the way around the building where the metals changed color. The customer loved the idea and trusted Gerry’s judgement and gave us the thumbs up. In the end, everyone involved ended up thankful for the mishap, because the Cedar boards set his shop apart from others-just with a simple accent!

So, we are now offering these accents boards as an option for customers looking to build! For it being as inexpensive as it is, it sure does dress it up.

The moral of the story, things happen for a reason. It’s not about how the mistakes happen, it’s about how you learn from them and how quickly you can come up with a solution.

Battlefield Landscaping adds Curb Appeal

Check out these before and after photos of a landscaping job we finished recently in Battlefield, Mo! The customer requested two things:

  • Low maintenance plants
  • Add curb appeal

The improvement a block wall can make on a space is impressive! Sometimes it doesn’t take much to dress up your space.
